Rainbow Room News Feb wk 1

Rainbow Room Newsletter
February 2nd - 6th

LAST WEEK:
Last week it was all about colors and shapes!  Some of the things we did were a lot of color mixing with colored ice, water, and paints.  We learned about different shapes and got to use paper shapes to create whatever we wanted!

THIS WEEK:
This week we are learning about Self-help Skills.  How to put your clothes and shoes on, how to wash your hands and how much toilet paper to use, folding towels, washing our dishes after we are done with them, blowing our nose, brushing our teeth, setting the table and more.

January 26th - 30th

LAST WEEK:
Last week we learned about Hibernation! We had so much fun getting to bring our stuffed animals to school and having a teddy bear picnic! 

THIS WEEK:
Teacher Alisha will be gone Monday.
This week we are learning about shapes, colors and numbers!  
We will get to explore mixing colors together, learning what the primary colors are and the secondary colors.  We will also learn about the different shapes!

OPEN HOUSE:
Open house is this week on the 26th, 27th and 29th.
I strongly encourage you to explore the STAR and SUNSHINE class during school hours to meet the teachers and learn about the classrooms!
Feel free to talk to Teacher Donna or myself for room recommendations.

LAPS for LAPS:
February 12th
5:00 - 7:00pm
This is a fun fundraiser for our students!  We will set up a track where kids can walk or run around and motivate them to get moving!  Pledge sheets went home last week for students to ask families and friends to pledge for them a donation per lap or a set amount would be great too!!

SPRING AUCTION: 
April 18th 
5:00 - 8:00 pm
Location - Big Al's
Tickets- $18/ person or $34/ couple until April 10th
Auction is our biggest fundraiser!
Take advantage of this fun night out for grown-ups!!
Plan on playing games, enjoying dinner and bidding on our fantastic auction items and class baskets!

January 19th - 23rd

LAST WEEK:
Last week we kicked off the week learning about Arctic Animals!  Some of the things we did were learning about penguins and snowy animals.  We talked about the cold weather and snow.  And created pear penguins, snowy animals and practiced lacing mittens!  

THIS WEEK:
This week we are learning about animals during hibernation.  We will talk about the different types of animals that hibernate, what hibernation is, where different animals hibernate, we will get to bring our teddy bears to school and have a picnic with them.

TEDDY BEAR PICNIC:
Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd
Bring a teddy bear or your favorite stuffed animal to school with you.
please please please put your name on your stuffed animal!!!

25% of sales will be donated to Little Acorn!
Be sure to check your child's bucket for a flyer!

Rainbow Room News Jan WK 2

January 12th - 16th 

LAST WEEK:
Last week we started off our month learning about Snowman, ice, and learning the spelling of our names.  We got to create lots of different types of snowman, even making ones with the letters of our names.  We got to explore ice in the sensory table with texture, temperature and what happens when you put salt on ice and then used water colors to paint the ice and see the reactions to it.  We painted with frozen paint seeing what happens when you mix one primary color with another, which the kids really enjoyed getting covered in paint!! 

THIS WEEK:
This week we are learning about Polar Animals!!  
We will get to paint cute penguins using pears, create igloos with white playdough, use coconut to make a silly seal, play a mitten match game, practice lacing and more!

Rainbow Room News
December 15th - 19th

LAST WEEK:
Last week we learned about Kwanzaa and began our introduction into winter.  We read books about Kwanzaa and learned about the 7 days celebrated.  We created the kinara using our hands and practicing the colors, we created a quilt using different shapes in the kwanzaa colors of red, green and black.  We made trees out of cones and puffy paint and sticking buttons on them for lights, as well as Olaf the snowman.  

THIS WEEK:
We begin our winter theme in Christmas!  This is going to be a really fun week!  We have fun crafts where we will get to paint and glue things together to create trees, snow globes, candy canes and lights!  We will get to continue singing fun holiday songs and read some silly stories!  On Thursday and Friday we will have our Holiday Party!

pajama day!!!  come in pajamas!!!
Please bring your item you signed up for, for the cookie decorating!

Rainbow Room Newsletter
December 8th - 12th

LAST WEEK:
Last week we got to learn about Hanukkah!  We learned the dreidel song, got to design sun catcher dreidels, we painted the star of david to hang on the tree, got to each help out making salt dough then using christmas cookie cutters to make an ornament out of it that we will get to paint this week!  We also created a menorah using glue, counting candles and using our finger to make the flame on the candle.  

THIS WEEK:
This week we are learning about Kwanzaa!  We will get to do a cooking project making sweet potatoes that we will get to enjoy for a snack, we will use our hands to make a kinara.  We will make a fruit and corn craft, and create a kwanzaa mat.

WINTER CONCERT:
Tuesday at 6pm
Please drop your child off in the classroom between 530 - 545.  No later then 545 please.  If your child is in underwear, please make sure they use the bathroom before class please.  Thanks!  

BOOK FAIR:
December 8th - 12th
Located in the hidden chapel
open at drop off and pick up times as well as the winter concert
All proceeds will go to buying new books for the classrooms!

CANNED FOOD DRIVE:
We are still collecting items for the canned food drive.  This is a great opportunity to have your child bring in some food for families in need and talking to them about being thankful for what you have and to give back to those that need it :)  The food is going to families for Christmas food baskets!!

checks received after noon on the 10th will have a $20.00 late fee added to it.

Rainbow Room Newsletter
December 1st - 5th 

LAST WEEK:
Last week was a very short week, we continued learning about what it means to be thankful and what we were thankful for.  We made thanksgiving turkey cards using our hands and we got to use our placemats that we made the week before for our thanksgiving feast!  Everyone really enjoyed the feast!

THIS WEEK:
This week we are learning about Hanukkah.  We will learn what hanukkah is, we will get to talk about the menorah and create one, we will get to paint the star of david and more.  We will be practicing our counting and cutting with scissors.
