Rainbow Room News December Wk 3

Rainbow Room News
December 16th - 20th

This week:
This is our last week of preschool before Winter Break!  We have class on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  Thursday and Friday we are going bowling so there will be no class on those days.
This week we are finishing up with the letter C and Christmas!  We will be creating wreaths with our handprints and Christmas letters to Santa.  

SHARING:  Letter C or Christmas related.

Winter Concerts:
Winter Concerts will be this Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th during class time.  We will be singing at 9:30am in the JLH (upstairs).  If your child would like to sing in the concert but does not come on a Tuesday or a Wednesday feel free to bring them for the concert!  

Goodnight Moon:
Dont forget to sign up for the Goodnight Moon play on February 12th if you haven't already! We need a final head count by January 6th (which is our fist day back at school).  $5.00 per person.

Bowling:
Thursday 19th and Friday 20th Bowling at 9:30 - 11:30am at Crosby Lanes.

Rainbow Room News December WK 2

December 9th -13th

This week:
Hello Rainbow Room families, I hope you have all enjoyed the weekend and stayed warm in the very cold weather we have been having!  It looks like it will be warming up a bit, but with rain to come :(

Last week we learned about Hanukkah and the letter H.  If you haven't had a chance to look into the classroom yet and see all the beautiful artwork, you should!  It will be going home soon.

This week we begin learning about Christmas and the letter "C"!  We will be decorating ornaments, getting creative by making puffy Christmas trees, and decorating stockings!
We will be singing some fun Christmas songs and learning the Reindeer Hokey Pokey.  The Hokey Pokey is one of our classes favorite songs as well as 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed!  
We will hear some fun winter stories as well.

SHARING:  Letter C

Book Fair:
Book fair will be held December 9th- 13th.  It will be open at drop off and pick up times as well as after winter concerts.  All funds raised from the book fair will go toward the purchase of new books for the classrooms!

Winter Concerts:
Rainbow Rooms Winter Concert will be held on Tuesday December 10th.  We will be singing with the Star and Butterfly classes.  The concert begins at 6:00pm each night.  Children will need to arrive to their classrooms between 5:45 - 5:55pm.  Concerts will begin promptly at 6:00pm.  Please take your child potty before bringing them to the classroom.  

Canned Food Drive:
We are continuing to accept donations of canned and boxed food until December 13th.  All food items collected will go to families within our community for Christmas food baskets.  Thank you for all of your generosity!

Inclement Weather:
Just a reminder if the Vancouver School district is closed or 2 hours late due to inclement weather we are closed.  Please watch the news, listen to the radio, check our website, receive a text message or call our answering machine to determine if we will have school.

Volunteer Opportunities:
This month we need volunteers:  BOOK FAIR - there are still many shifts left available.  We especially need help after the winter concert nights.  After winter concert are usually are biggest sales.  Sing up sheets are on Maria's office door.

Here is a list of how much time some volunteer activities equal:

Recycling = 15 min
Washing Clothes = 30 min
Bulletin Boards = 30 min
Cutting out materials = 30 min
Washing toys = 30 min
Class Parent = 2 hours

Tuition:
tuition for the month of December is DUE by NOON on the 10TH.  Checks brought in AFTER noon are to be brought to Maria's office and must include a $20.00 late fee.

This week:
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday and a nice long weekend!  This week we are learning about Hanukkah, we will be creating window sparklers, the Star of David, and finger painting a Menorah!  We are still practicing our Christmas songs as the program will be the following week.  We will be reading some fun Hanukkah books as well. 

SHARING:  Letter H

Reminders:
There will be a sign up sheet this week for the Goodnight Moon play on February 12th.  Everyone is welcome to attend, that is the only day we will be going.  Tickets are $5.00 per person.  I need the final head count by January 6th.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!!  It was fun to see you all and talk at conferences!

This week we are learning about Turkeys and the letter "T".  We are creating turkeys using feathers, coffee filters and as puppets!  We will be reading fun books about turkeys and thanksgiving as well as learning how to count by counting feathers, tracing, and learning about the letter T.

VOLUNTEERS:
We are looking for people to help volunteer with the Bake Sale and Breakfast with Santa.  
Bake Sale:  Selling the goodies being brought in.
Breakfast with Santa:  Helping serve the food and wash dishes.  

This is a great way to complete volunteer hours for those who are not able to come during the week!  

GOODNIGHT MOON:
On February 12th we will be attending the play, Goodnight Moon!  You are all welcome to attend!  It is $5.00 per person.  I will be putting a sign up sheet for it since we need a headcount by January 6th,

This week:
I can not believe we are already into November!  The time is just flying by so fast!  First I want to say THANK YOU to everyone who helped out and was at the Halloween Parties!  They turned out great!  Thank you!
This weeks theme is Pilgrims and Indians.  We will be creating pilgrim and indian hats, reading fun stories, practice cutting and exploring pasta in the sensory table with tweezers and cups!  

Conferences:
Conferences are Tuesday 5th, Wednesday 6th, and Thursday 7th.  There is NO SCHOOL THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. 

Conferences are 20min long.  Please don't forget to turn in your questionnaire form before your conference if you can.  Thank you!

Rainbow Room Newsletter October Wk 5


Rainbow Room Newsletter
October 28th - November 1st

This week:
This week is all about Halloween!  Its pumpkins, bats, spiders, and ghosts!  We will be creating fun halloween art, reading silly halloween stories, learning about the letter H and dressing up in our cute costumes celebrating with our friends and families!

Sharing:  Letter H and/or halloween related.

Halloween Party:
The Halloween Parties are Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st.  The festivities start at 11 and go till 11:45 when class is over.  Some of our parents have prepared some fun games and activities for the party!  Costumes are welcome!  If your child will be wearing a costume, please have them come in it to school.  Teacher Donna and I will also be dressing up :)  Parents, grandparents, whoever will be picking up your child that day is encouraged to come at 11-11:45 for the party!  

If you do not attend a Wednesday or Thursday class, you are still welcome to come during the party and have fun with your friends!  Just let me know what day you are wanting to come.

Classroom Reminders:
Some of the classroom rules that we have been working on are:
1.  Sitting on our pockets during circle time.
2.  Putting a bubble in our mouths when the teacher is talking.
3.  Keeping our hands and bodies to ourselves - using gentle hands.
4.  Using our words when we are feeling upset.  

Scentsy Fundraiser:
The Scentsy fundraiser is due back by the 31st (Thursday) at the latest.  

Conference Reminders:
I will be sending home with you this week a Conference Reminder Form in your child's blue box for you to take home and fill out the bottom portion.  If you could return them by Friday November 1st that would be great!

Each conference is 20 min long.  I will be going back to back and do not have room to go over the time frame that you are in.  If you have further questions we can schedule another meeting.  Thanks!

This week we are going to be learning about pumpkins!  We will be decorating pumpkins, painting pumpkins, reading fun stories about pumpkins and learning about the letter “P”.

ASQ
I still need ASQ papers from some parents, please bring them in this week!  Thank you!!

Pumpkin Patch
The Pumpkin Patch is this Thursday and Friday.  Your shirts are in your child’s buckets to go home for the pumpkin patch!!  Please arrive 15min early and look for Teacher Donna and I!  We will begin at 10:00am.  Parking can be tight, so you may want to carpool if you can!

Conferences
Conferences are quickly approaching!  I have a sign up sheet by the sign in/out paper.  Pick a date and time to come in! 

School Closed
There is no school November Thursday 7th (conferences), Friday 8th, Monday 11th.

Rainbow Room Newsletter October Week 2: 7-11

Rainbow Room Newsletter
October 7th - 11th

Last Week
Last week we learned A is for Apples!  We had so much fun learning about apples and how they can be used in different ways.  We got to do an apple tasting and try red, yellow, and green apples and see which ones were sour and/ or sweet!  We also got to practice using a plastic knife to slice apples up and make dehydrated apples!  It was fun to see how the apples changed and what they tasted like.  Next we used our chopping skills again to create applesauce!  We chopped, mixed, and tasted our yummy creation! 

This week
This week we are learning F is for Farm!  We will be creating some feathered friends that we may see on a farm, creating some sheep as well as piggies!  We will be learning new farm songs, as well as reading some silly farm books!  Sharing this week can be something that begins with the letter F and/or a farm related!!

Carnival
It was so fun to see some of the families that were able to make it to the carnival!  Thanks again parents for all your help!!

Tuition
Tuition is due by Thursday 10th at the latest.  The tuition bucket is outside of the classroom by the sign in sheet.

ASQ
Your ASQ packets are due by Friday 11th.  Thanks to those that have already turned them in!

Pumpkin Patch
The Pumpkin Patch is Thursday 17th 10:00am and Friday 18th 10:00am.  There are directions to the pumpkin patch that will be in your child's boxes to go home.  We have been asked that one adult attend with each child enrolled.  Extra adults are welcome to attend, they will just need to pay at the patch.  Younger siblings are welcome as well, children 1 year or younger are free, children older then 1 year will need to pay at the patch.  The cost this year is $5.00 per child.  The prices includes:  visiting the animals, mini-maze, hay pyramid, covered hay ride to the patch and a pumpkin.  Children will again receive a bag for their pumpkin.  Children must be able to carry their pumpkin from the patch without adult assistance.  Parents may purchase extra pumpkins at the patch fro the going rate per pound.  

Please be sure to meet me 15 minutes prior to 10:00am.  Parking can be very tight this time of year, so you may want to carpool if you can.  We go rain or shine so dress in layers and wear boots!  You could even bring an extra change of clothes for the car!

As always please provide a coat for your child, if its not raining we will most likely be going outside!

Rainbow Room News October Wk 1


Rainbow Room Newsletter
September 30th - October 4th

In Our Classroom
In our classroom this week, we are learning about Apples and the letter "A".  During circle time we will be reading books about apples and the alphabet.  We will also use that time to discuss the types of apples, what words begin with the letter "A", as well as singing some apple songs.

During our group activity time we will be talking about the different ways you can make apples by doing some apple tastings, counting the seeds we find in an apple, as well as helping make applesauce. We will also be creating apple trees, painting with apples and roller painting apples.

ASQ
Thank you to those parents who have already turned in their packets!  I want to remind other parents to make sure and finish those up and turn them in by October 11th!  Thank you!

Book Orders and T-Shirt Orders
Orders are due Monday September 30th.  T-shirts are $5.00.  I have received orders from most of you, but are still missing a few.  For every book order you make online, it goes towards books for our classroom!

Tuition
Due by Thursday 10th at noon.

Carnival
Our school carnival is Friday October 4th from 5:00-7:00pm.  There are still a couple spots left to sign up for, please help us out!  Plus it goes towards your volunteer hours!

Class Parties
Our Halloween class parties are Wednesday October 30th and Thursday 31st.  I am looking for 2 volunteers for the 30th and 31st to help with planning and setting up for our class party.  Our party will start at 11am and end at 11:45.  Some ideas for the parties are starting off with a fun Halloween craft and then ending with games and prizes.  Children are encouraged to dress up in their costumes and parents are encouraged to attend the party with their children!

Rainbow Room News

Week of September 16th

Last Week
Last week we learned about colors! We played color matching games, we talked about the colors we were wearing and our sharing.  We explored what happens when you mix two primary colors together in water bottles.  We read books about a bunny that changes colors, a crayon box that talks, and a lost green sheep.  We also created lots of colorful pictures and sang fun songs!

Next Week
Next week we will be talking about Shapes and Numbers!  We will be creating a shape house and do some shape matching.  We will also be counting frogs and monkeys.

 Late Pick-ups
As a reminder there is a 5 minute grace period for late pick-ups.  After 5 minutes there is a dollar a minute fee.  If you are late there will be a late pick-up slip for you to fill out.  Thanks for understanding. If you know you will be late, please call Maria at the office.


Sharing
The red sharing basket will now be placed inside the classroom next to the door on a table when you first come in.  Please remember to label your child's sharing item.  Also please remove your sharing item if its in a backpack, we do not always have time to check each bag.  Thank you!

THIS WEEKS SHARING CAN BE ANYTHING YOUR CHILD WANTS TO SHARE!

Picture Day
The Rainbow Room will be having their pictures taken Monday September 23rd and Tuesday September 24th.  By the sign-in sheet there is a paper to fill out for picture day.  Please take one home to fill out and return.  Thanks!

 LAPS for LAPS 
On Friday September 27th Little Acorn is having a fundraiser.  We are asking children to get pledges for how many laps they can go around on a track.  It will be at the school in one of the parking lots. There is a flyer to take home with you by the sign-in sheet.  Thanks!!

 Helmets
Some of the children have expressed in class that they would like to ride the trikes at school when we are on the playground, however, unless you bring in a labeled helmet you can not ride a trike.  If you know your child would like to ride a trike you can bring in a helmet and take it home with you at the end of class! 

Volunteer Hours
There is a sign-up sheet for Golfing by the sign-in sheet.  On the first Friday of October we are having a school carnival and we need your help!!!  If you could please pick a time slot to sign up for to help out with our class golfing booth that would be awesome!  If we do not get enough people to volunteer then we will have to close the booth.  Thank you!!

Week of September 9th


 In Our Classroom

We made it to the second week of school!  We will still have some new children and families starting the school year this week. 

This week we will be learning about the colors of the rainbow.

During group time we will be creating coffee filter paintings, sun catchers, and rainbow pictures.  We will also be playing the color game, doing some color matching, as well as experiencing with mixing colors in bottles of water Please feel free to donate your empty water bottles to our classroom to be used during the week! 

We will be reading a book about a little rabbit who changes into different colors when he falls into colored paint, we will also ready the crayon box that talked and a book about finding the green sheep amongst other sheep.

Rainbow Room News
Week of September 3rd
 
Welcome to the Rainbow Room Class!  It was wonderful getting to meet all of the families coming into the Rainbow Room Class.  We are so excited about the year ahead and getting to know your family.

We will need a copy of a family photo for our class family tree.  Please send copies of the picture just in case something happens to them.  Thank you!

The first few days of school can be hard (usually on the parents).  We encourage you to have a positive energy when you bring your child into school and give a goodbye hug at drop off.  School is a fun, safe place to make new friends and for children to know that mommy and daddy always come back.

In Our Classroom

In our classroom this week we will be getting to know each other and the classroom.  We will be reading the book The Kissing Hand to let the children know that even though it can be scary going to school, mommy and daddy love you so much.  We will also be learning songs to get to know our friends.

 Parent Volunteer Time

 A way to add some volunteer time into your schedule is by donating items to our classroom!  You can donate school supplies such as markers, glue sticks, crayons, etc....you can add supplies like tissues, wipes, gloves, sanitizer...or you could even help us with our class pet guinea pig!  Items to help him out would be food and bedding.  

$25.00 = 30 min volunteer time

$12.50 = 15 min volunteer time
