Rainbow Room Newsletter dec wk 3

Rainbow Room News
December 15th - 19th

LAST WEEK:
Last week we learned about Kwanzaa and began our introduction into winter.  We read books about Kwanzaa and learned about the 7 days celebrated.  We created the kinara using our hands and practicing the colors, we created a quilt using different shapes in the kwanzaa colors of red, green and black.  We made trees out of cones and puffy paint and sticking buttons on them for lights, as well as Olaf the snowman.  

THIS WEEK:
We begin our winter theme in Christmas!  This is going to be a really fun week!  We have fun crafts where we will get to paint and glue things together to create trees, snow globes, candy canes and lights!  We will get to continue singing fun holiday songs and read some silly stories!  On Thursday and Friday we will have our Holiday Party!

Rainbow Room Newsletter
December 8th - 12th

LAST WEEK:
Last week we got to learn about Hanukkah!  We learned the dreidel song, got to design sun catcher dreidels, we painted the star of david to hang on the tree, got to each help out making salt dough then using christmas cookie cutters to make an ornament out of it that we will get to paint this week!  We also created a menorah using glue, counting candles and using our finger to make the flame on the candle.  

THIS WEEK:
This week we are learning about Kwanzaa!  We will get to do a cooking project making sweet potatoes that we will get to enjoy for a snack, we will use our hands to make a kinara.  We will make a fruit and corn craft, and create a kwanzaa mat.

Please drop your child off in the classroom between 530 - 545.  No later then 545 please.  If your child is in underwear, please make sure they use the bathroom before class please.  Thanks!

We are still collecting items for the canned food drive.  This is a great opportunity to have your child bring in some food for families in need and talking to them about being thankful for what you have and to give back to those that need it :)  The food is going to families for Christmas food baskets!!

December 1st - 5th 

LAST WEEK:
Last week was a very short week, we continued learning about what it means to be thankful and what we were thankful for.  We made thanksgiving turkey cards using our hands and we got to use our placemats that we made the week before for our thanksgiving feast!  Everyone really enjoyed the feast!

THIS WEEK:
This week we are learning about Hanukkah.  We will learn what hanukkah is, we will get to talk about the menorah and create one, we will get to paint the star of david and more.  We will be practicing our counting and cutting with scissors.

November 24th - 28th

LAST WEEK:
Last week we got to learn about Thanksgiving from T. Donna.  She told us a wonderful story about the pilgrims and indians and how thanksgiving was started.  We also got to learn from her some new Thanksgiving songs!  We decorated pilgrim and indian hats, created place-mats for our thanksgiving feast, a thankful tree and we created a picture of our friends we are thankful for!

THIS WEEK:
This week is a very short week...there is only school on Monday and Tuesday.  This week we are continuing learning about Thanksgiving and what it means to be thankful!  We are going to be creating thanksgiving cards for our families and having a thanksgiving day feast during our snack time!

LAST WEEK:
Last week we learned about Turkeys!  We got to make some cute turkeys using the letter "T" and practice learning our colors with turkey feathers.  We also learned a new song/ game using turkey feathers and learning the colors that the children really seemed to enjoy called "Turkey Feathers"!

THIS WEEK:
This week T. Donna is going to be teaching us about Thanksgiving!
We will get to create magazine collages, make pilgrim and Indian hats, create place mats that will be used for our thanksgiving feast and friend paper dolls!
We will read some cute and silly thanksgiving books and sing some fun thanksgiving songs!

LAST WEEK:
Last week we learned about families!  The kids had so much fun looking at each others family art work they created at home and talking about who is in their families!  
We got to draw family pictures and create family trees.  

THIS WEEK:
This week is all about Turkeys!!!
We will be doing some color matching with turkey feathers, creating silly turkey hats and turkey handprints.  We will also be practicing our fine motor skills using play dough and beads to create turkeys and more!

LAST WEEK
Last week we learned about Halloween and celebrated Halloween with our AWESOME party!
Thank you so much for our parent volunteers that put on our party for us and provided the yummy snacks and fun games!  The children really enjoyed it!  Thanks also to all the parents who were able to come and hang out with their children!

THIS WEEK
This week we are beginning November learning about Families!  We will talk about our families and who is in them and what families do together.  We will get to create family trees and practice drawing a family photo.  We will read fun family books and take turns dressing the baby dolls and giving them baths.
Parents have "homework" to bring with on either Tuesday or Wednesday.  Please read below!

Rainbow Room October WK 5

October 27th - 31st 

LAST WEEK:
Last week we continued learning about Pumpkins!  First we hypothesized about what would be inside the pumpkin when we opened it, then we watched as T. Donna cut into the pumpkin and scooped out the seeds.  We were able to explore the seeds, talking about the life cycle of a pumpkin and feeling the textures inside!  We create fun pumpkin crafts and sang pumpkin songs!

THIS WEEK:
This week we are going to be focusing on Halloween!!!  
We will get to hear some silly and spooky stories about ghosts and witches and mice!  We will learn about bats and create some as well as ghosts! We will get to practice learning colors and sorting them to create candy corn art work.

Rainbow Room News Oct WK 4

Rainbow Room Newsletter
October 20th - 24th

LAST WEEK:
Last week was a short but fun week...we started the week of learning about Pumpkins!  We got to decorate paper bag pumpkins, do some stamping with pumpkins, create paper plate jack o' lanterns using orange shaving cream and more! We also got to go to the pumpkin patch which was a lot of fun! At the pumpkin patch we saw farm animals and got to go through a corn maze as well as a hay ride!

THIS WEEK:  
This week we are continuing our learning on Pumpkins!  We will get to create neat sun caters, learn the 5 little pumpkins poem and create a craft to go with it, and even get to decorate our own mini pumpkin. We will lean new pumpkin songs, explore and discuss what you would find on the inside of a pumpkin, count the pumpkin seeds and even get to try some!  

HALLOWEEN PARTY:
I have one parent signed up so far to help out (yay!!)
I still need at least 2 more parents to help out with it - remember it gives you hours for your required 2 hours of volunteer time.
This is a really fun way to get your hours in and celebrate halloween with your child!

RR Newsletter Oct Wk 2

Rainbow Room Newsletter
October 6th - 10th

LAST WEEK:
Last week we learned about being on the farm and the different animals you would find on a farm.  We reviewed the sounds of farm animals as well as matching a toy farm animal to a picture of a farm animal.  We sang "Old McDonald" using toy farm animals and matching them to the animal in the song!  
We got to create mud pigs by using shaving cream and paint.  This was a big class hit the children loved getting to paint with a puffy texture and cover their piggies in "mud"!  We glued yellow, orange and white feathers on paper ducks and then on Friday we used our handprints to create sheep by gluing cotton balls on the palms on the hands and sticking eyes on the thumbs.  The children thought it was so cute and liked seeing their sheep get puffier!  We also song "Baa Baa Black Sheep"

THIS WEEK:
This week we are learning about Produce and Harvesting.  We will be creating scarecrows, learning about canning, and creating a produce collage.  We will get to hear nursery rhymes stories and looking at how a farmers market works.  We will get to learn about the different fruits and veggies, explore corn on the cob by peeling it as well as getting to eat it.

Rainbow Room Newsletter October Wk 1

Rainbow Room Newsletter
September 29th - October 3rd

LAST WEEK:
Last week we had a great time learning about Apples! 
Teacher Donna taught the children about the different types of apples by color, taste, texture, and smell.  
One of the favorite things to last week was an apple tasting.  We talked about the colors of each apple, where they grow and then got to try each apple and describe the taste and texture of it.  Teacher Alisha documented what each child said in a notebook that was on the table outside of the classroom.  

THIS WEEK:
This week we are going to be learning about Farms as we move into October (can you believe it is almost October already?!).
We will get to paint piggies with "mud" while readying a book about pigs in the pumpkin patch, glue feathers to chickens and read about some silly farm animals having to get a bath, and using our handprints to make sheep!  We will be doing some mom and baby farm animal matching, talking about who lives on the farm and the sounds of the farm animals.

CARNIVAL:
Friday October 3rd!!!  
Our school Carnival is FAST APPROACHING!!!  
It is a fun time for families and teachers to get together and spend time playing silly games and eating yummy snacks!
There will be minion bowling, a bounce house, mini golf (rainbow room class is helping with this), angry birds game, bean bag toss and tattoos.
Game bracelets are on sale now till 10/1 for $10!!!
They will be $15 at the carnival so get them now!!  
Food tickets as $1
There will be a chili cook off as well!

We really need volunteers to help run the mini golf station!  Please be sure to sign up on the form outside the classroom!!!  
Plus this will help with your volunteer hours you will need by the end of the year :)

RR Newsletter Sept WK 4


Rainbow Room Newsletter

September 22nd - 26th

LAST WEEK:
Last week we learned all about Leaves and the letter "L".
We got to explore leaves, branches, pinecones and bugs in the sensory table using our hands, tweezers, and magnify glasses.  
We ready books having to do with leaves such as There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Leaf (which was the class favorite) and We're Going On a Leaf Hunt.   
We got to create several art projects using leaves including gluing real leaves onto paper trees and then using our hands as the leaves and stamping them onto paper trees.  
We also talked about the letter "L", the sound it makes as well as different words that may begin with the letter "L".  We showed the children how they can make a big "L" and a small "l" using their fingers.  

FAVORITE THINGS TO DO AT SCHOOL:
Some of our favorite things to do last week at school was playing with cars.  The Rainbow Room class loves to get the cars out and race them around the room.  Another favorite activity is getting out the small brushes and dust pans and sweeping the floors :)  Exploring the different writing utensils are also a class favorite.  

THIS WEEK:
This is going to be a fun week!  Teacher Donna will be taking the lead this week with some fun activities she has planned!  
This week is all about APPLES!
We will be painting small paper plates into apples, getting to prepare and eat apple tacos for snack as well as explore apple play dough with pie tins and rolling pins.  We will get to do some apple stamping with real apples and do an apple tasting and graph as a class which color apple was our favorite one to eat.  Lastly we will learn about the seasons of an apple tree.

This week we are learning about the leaves!  We will be decorating leaves, creating a fall leaf collage, and doing some painting!!  We we also be exploring leaves and pinecones in the sensory table, going on a leaf walk...weather permitting...we will get to begin practice using scissors and tweezers as well.  

SHARING:
Letter "L" or nature related.
Sharing is optional, but the children really enjoy bringing in something they love and sharing it with their friends.  Also PLEASE REMEMBER TO LABEL ALL SHARING ITEMS.  Thanks!!

What a wonderful first week of school we had!  T. Donna and I are so excited for this years class :)

THIS WEEK:
We are learning "All About Me".  We will be learning some new songs, reading some fun books, and creating pieces of art.  We will be doing lots of painting this week and water play!

SHARING:
Every week is a new theme to our sharing.  This week it is the letter "F" or something that you can share about yourself.  
It is not required to bring in a sharing, however the children really enjoy it.  
Please be sure to label your sharing item with the child's name and last initial.  
There is a red basket that will be outside the classroom each day for the sharing to go into.  We ask that you place the sharing item in the basket before entering class.  Thanks!

FAMILY PICTURE:
If you have not done so already, please bring in a family photo for our family wall in the classroom.

VOLUNTEER HOURS:

June 16th - 20th

I am sad to say that this is our last Rainbow Room Newsletter for the school year.
I have really enjoyed getting to be apart of Little Acorn, getting to know your children and watching them grow up!  You all have such wonderful, smart, caring and funny children and I am very proud of them all!

This week:
We are going to be learning about Fairy Tales in this short last week of school!  
We will be making princess and prince crowns and magic wands!  Reading some fun fairy tale stories and learning nursery rhymes.

THIS WEEK
This is going to be a fun week!  Teach Donna has planned all the excitement! 
We will be "packing our suitcases" in a suitcase collage for camping!  Thats right, this week is all about camping!  
There will also be special snacks of S'mores on Monday and Tuesday and Hotdogs on Thursday and Friday.  As well as some fun camping books and father's day books.

Rainbow Room Newsletter June WK 1

June 2nd-6th

THIS WEEK:
This week we are finishing up our Animal Unit by learning about Ocean Animals.  
We will be exploring sea shells and creating shell imprints, exploring fresh water and salt water, learning about the different types of sea animals and which ones live in cold water and warm water.  As well as graphing our favorite ocean animal.  

SHARING:
Ocean related or sea animal or the letter "O".

HELMETS:
Looks like it is going to be another beautiful week, if your child would like to ride a trike at school, please bring a helmet with them to class that is labeled.  Thanks!!


We are almost to the end of the school year, time is flying by way too fast!

This week we are learning about the Rainforest and the animals in the rainforest.
We will be decorating cute parrots, silly monkeys, and red eye tree frogs.  We will also be learning about the layers of the rainforest and listening to the sounds of the rain through rainmakers.

This Friday 30th

May 19th - 23rd

THIS WEEK:
We are continuing our Animal Unit and learning about Zoo Animals this week.  
We will be marble painting zebras (a class favorite), adding spots to giraffes, decorating paper plates to look like lions and creating a sticker collage.  
We will be singing songs like "Five Little Monkeys" and "Itsy Bitsy Monkey".
We will be doing some graphing and sorting as well as getting creative by building a zoo with blocks and play dough and moving like the animals.

Monday May 26th - Memorial Day

Progress Reports will be out this week.

FAMILY FUN NIGHT:
Friday May 30th

HELMETS:

May 12th - 16th

Happy Mother's Day! Hope you all had a wonderful day with your loved ones!

THIS WEEK:
This week is all about dinosaurs!!  We will be learning the difference between Herbivores and Carnivores and what that means.  We will talk about which dinosaurs fly, walk on 2 legs, 4 legs, etc.  We will get to play with dinosaurs in class and learn dinosaur songs.  As well as creating our own dinosaurs and stories to go with them.

I will be out of the classroom on Thursday.  Teacher Donna will still be there :)

WEATHER:
It looks like this week will be another nice week for weather!  If you would like to bring a helmet for your child to wear so he/she can ride bikes on the play ground please feel free too.  Also if you could label your child's helmet it would be appreciated!  Thanks!

FAMILY FUN NIGHT:
Friday May 30th is Family Fun Night
Theme:  Math and Science
Time:  5:30-7pm

May 5th - 9th

LAST WEEK:
Last week we learned about Bugs and Butterflies!  We got to explore and learn about caterpillars and watch them grow, this week we will still be watching out caterpillars grown and transform into chrysalis and then beautiful butterflies that we will release in the air!  

THIS WEEK:
This week we are learning about Flowers and Plants.  We will be talking about the lifecycle of a Plant and get a chance to plant some flowers of our own!! We will also be sponge painting flowers, experimenting with color, painting rocks, playing Simon says, and cutting practice.

THIS WEEK:  
Are you ready for the sun and warm weather??  I am!  
This week we are learning and exploring bugs and butterflies!  We have some new friends joining the Rainbow Room class...little caterpillars.  We will get to watch the caterpillars and see then grow into beautiful butterflies the next week or two.
We will also learn about ladybugs and bee's.  We will be doing a graph as well to see what our favorite bug is.

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter weekend!  
Thank you to everyone for your participation and support in helping out the school with the Auction and Pancake Breakfast!  

THIS WEEK:
This week we are going to be learning about Earth Day and baby spring animals!
We will be making some fun earth paintings, getting our hands covered in paint to decorate baby chicks and more.  We will be singing "5 Little Ducks", "Little Bunny Fufu" and "Mary Had a Little Lamb".
We will also be reading some cute animal books!

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL:
June 19th is our last day.
We will have an All School Picnic from 10:00 - 1:00

SUMMER CAMP:
Summer Camp will run for 2 weeks
July 14th - 18th 
July 21st - 25th

I hope you all enjoyed your Spring Break!  We really lucked out with the warm sunny weather!  I hope it lasts for us.
THIS WEEK:
This week is going to be a really fun week!  We are celebrating Week of the Young Child.  Each day will be a different theme.  We are also doing kid choice week where the children get to pick what they want to study, read and create!
Monday - Super Hero Day!
Tuesday - Silly Socks Day and Jabba the Dog!
Wednesday - Class Color Day (Orange) and Officer Johnson!
Thursday - Silly Hat Day and Concrete Truck Day!
Friday - Wild and Crazy Hair Day!

Sharing will be free choice this week, maybe something related to the days theme...so Monday share your favorite super hero. Tuesday your favorite animal.  Wednesday free choice.  Thursday your favorite type of transportation and Friday free choice.

ART SHOW AND BREAKFAST:
We are having out second annual Art Show and Family Breakfast on Saturday April 19th from 8-10am.  I will have a sign up sheet this week for it, please let me know if you are attending!  It is a free event!

SILENT AUCTION:
Bidding begins April 14th - 19th.  

STUDENT PROJECT BIDDING:
April 14 - 18th.  Bid sheets will be outside the classroom.  Come and check out the adorable project our class has created!

BOOK FAIR:
April 14th - 19th during preschool hours.  
Looking for a way to complete volunteer hours????  THIS IS A GREAT WAY!

LAST DAY SCHOOL:
June 19th.  That day will be an All School Picnic from 10:00 - 1:00pm

Rainbow Room Newsletter April WK 1

March 31st- April 4th

THIS WEEK:
This week is all about Community Helpers and Transportation!  We will be talking about Police men, fire men, doctors, dentists, and having a visit from a train conductor!
We will get to do some fun science experiments, taking care of our stuffed animals by putting bandaids on them and checking their health, creating a class train and more.

SHARING:
Your favorite transportation toy or book!

DONATIONS FOR THIS WEEK:
Toilet paper tubes or paper towel tubes for Thursday and Friday class!

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY:
We will be having a visit to the Rainbow Room class from a Train Conductor.  His name is Chevy and he is very nice (he is also my fiance)!  He will be dressed in his train clothes (overalls, boots, hat) and talking about train safety, the different parts of a train, and what they carry.
